| “Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life. The cause of diabetes continues to be a mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles” (All About Diabetes , American Diabetes Association, 2006).

糖尿病是人体不能产生胰岛素或者不能正常使用胰岛素的一种疾病。胰岛素是一种激素该激素用于转化糖，淀粉和其它食物, 使之成为人体日常所需的能量。糖尿病的发病原因不为人所知，但是该病很可能与基因和环境因素，如肥胖和缺乏锻炼有关。(关于糖尿病,美国糖尿病协会,2006).
